Why the youth?

"Young people represent one of Ghana's greatest sources of human potential. Their energy, ideas, creativity, resilience and willingness to challenge existing limitations can become a powerful force for economic and social transformation when properly supported."

SELF → OPPORTUNITY → LEADERSHIP → COMMUNITY → COUNTRY.

Our strategic goals

The five anchoring pillars
GOAL 1: BUILD YOUTH SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SELF-AWARENESS

Before young people can lead others, build enterprises or transform communities, they must first develop confidence in themselves.
Goal 1 focuses on helping young people understand their identity, recognise their strengths, develop positive mindsets and build the confidence necessary to pursue meaningful goals.

The Foundation believes that sustainable youth empowerment must ultimately improve young people’s ability to create livelihoods, earn income, build businesses, find meaningful employment and participate productively in the economy.
Goal 2 therefore focuses on connecting potential with economic opportunity. We will achieve goal 2 through Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship Development, Employment and Career Readiness, Technical and Digital Skills, Mentorship, Enterprise Incubation and Business Support, Networking and Market Linkages, Apprenticeship and Internship Linkages, Advocacy for Youth Economic Opportunity, Monitoring Enterprise and Career Outcomes. The desired outcome of goal 2 is a group of young people who are increasingly able to: earn, create, innovate, employ, invest and participate meaningfully in Ghana’s economy.

Leadership development is central to the Foundation’s mission. We believe Ghana needs young leaders who combine competence with character and ambition with responsibility. Our leadership programmes will therefore seek not merely to create title holders, but to develop people capable of influencing others positively, solving problems and serving society. We will achieve goal 3 through 1. Leadership Development Workshops, Leadership Mentorship, Team-Building Programmes, Service-Learning Projects, Youth Leadership Conferences, and Summits, Leadership Retreats, Peer Leadership, Leadership Challenges and Competitions, Public Speaking and Communication, Leadership Internships and Exposure, Youth Sporting Mentorship and Leadership, Emerging Leaders Fellowship. The desired outcome of goal 3 is a group of young Ghanaians who combine competence, confidence, integrity, courage, empathy and a commitment to service.

The Foundation believes that meaningful leadership begins with the willingness to serve. Young people should not have to wait until they occupy important positions before contributing to their communities. Goal 4 therefore provides practical opportunities for Ghanaian youth to identify needs, volunteer, lead community initiatives and experience the power of collective action. We Will Achieve Goal 4 through Community Needs Identification Promotion of volunteerism, Youth-Led Community Projects, MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY project, School Collaborations, Partnership with Community Institutions, Youth Advisory Platforms, Community Campaigns, Recognition of Service, Youth Community Innovation Challenge. The desired outcome of goal 4 is a group of young people who understand that leadership is service and that community transformation begins when citizens decide to become part of the solution.

The Alex Asmah Foundation believes that Ghana’s future will be shaped not merely by the quality of its political and institutional leadership, but also by the knowledge, values, engagement and participation of its citizens.
We therefore seek to develop a generation of young Ghanaians who understand their rights and responsibilities, appreciate Ghana’s constitutional and democratic institutions, engage constructively in national discourse, participate intelligently in economic and political discussions and possess the confidence to contribute ideas toward building a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive and sustainable Ghana.
Our approach to active citizenship is Non-partisan, Inclusive, Constitutional, Issue-based, Respectful, and Development-oriented. The Foundation does not tell young people what political choices to make.
Rather, we equip them with the knowledge, confidence, critical-thinking skills and platforms required to understand issues, interrogate competing ideas, form independent opinions and participate responsibly in Ghana’s democratic and development processes.

We Will Achieve Goal 5 through Civic and Constitutional Literacy, Constitutional and Citizenship Clubs, Ghana Youth National Dialogue Series, Youth Democratic Participation Programme, Youth Economic Dialogue and Budget Literacy, National Youth Debate Championships, The Foundation will organise competitive debates addressing important national questions, “MY GHANA, MY RESPONSIBILITY” Campaign, Meet Your Institutions, Young people will have opportunities to engage institutions central to Ghana’s governance, democracy, economic management, justice and development among others.

Through Goal 5, we seek to develop young people who understand Ghana and its Constitution; know their rights and responsibilities; think independently; engage national issues intelligently; among others
